Finalist AV Awards 2002 Digital Media Project of the Year

Introduction

The restorability of the endodontically treated tooth is often given insufficient evaluation. An overall approach to the restoration of the mouth, not just the single tooth, should be adopted. While dentists may be concerned with saving as many teeth as is feasible by endodontic therapy, overly heroic treatments should be avoided and alternative approaches considered as necessary.

This interactive program considers the subject in detail, challenging the user to consider carefully conventional strategies and how they may be improved upon with modern restorative approaches. Video and 3D graphics are employed to illustrate the techniques and concepts discussed.

User comments

"I enjoyed the program and studying it at home in a relaxed mode in the evening actually made it a pleasurable experience. I attend postgraduate courses on a regular basis, but after 2:30PM nothing really sinks in. This CAL program means one can stop and return to the computer at will and when the mood takes you, without losing valuable surgery time, and paying significant sums to dentists who spend more time lecturing than working for patients. Keep up the good work!"

"I felt that the quality and quantity of information was greater than that which a full day course would usually provide. I was able to digest the information more fully than I would on a course."

"I found the theory in the reference section easy to understand and think that it may be a great future teaching aid."

"A clear and logical progression through subject; well illustrated and with key points well indicated in the text."

"Ability to review any section allowing viewer to concentrate on their weakness. Excellent close up views of treatment reinforce understanding of technique. Quiz section was very good for reinforcement of content."

"It was well thought out and covered the topic well."

"Useful addition to post graduate that can be accessed at any time at home or surgery in one's own time."

"Ideal CAL for busy practitioners, reasonably cost, no traveling, no loss of income and payment for expensive courses!"

"Excellent program for updating existing knowledge, well set out, well planned."

"It keeps the viewer active by thinking and searching for answers!"
